Choosing for a Toronto condo
Measure the route in before the room — front door width, hallway turns, and elevator depth and door width. A sofa that fits your living room but not your elevator is the most expensive mistake in this category. Flat-packed and two-box designs solve most access problems.
Rough sizing: under 400 sq ft, look at a loveseat or klik klak sofa bed. From 400–650 sq ft, a compact sofa or a small reversible-chaise sectional. Above 650 sq ft, a full sectional works comfortably.
Configurations explained
- Reversible chaise — assembles on either side, so you cannot order the wrong orientation. The safest choice if you might move.
- Left or right facing (LHF/RHF) — described as you look at the sofa from the front. Get it wrong and it blocks a walkway.
- Klik klak sofa beds — click flat into a bed with no pull-out mechanism. Lighter, cheaper and far easier to move into an apartment.
- Storage sectionals — the chaise lifts to reveal storage. Genuinely useful in a condo with one closet.
- Power reclining — motorised, often with USB ports and a storage console.
Fabrics
Performance fabric is the practical default. Faux leather and leather match wipe clean instantly and suit pets and children. Velvet and bouclé look the best and are having a moment; corduroy hides wear well.
